A wealthy couple parting ways in Colorado can often mirror the numerous marriage dissolution issues that accompany a high-profile couple in the public eye. Any divorce is liable to be contentious with a variety of factors that go into how long it takes to settle. A divorce in which there is a complex asset division, well-known people and allegations going back and forth will be more difficult than a situation of a couple that has limited properties and can simply recede into the background without great attention paid to what is happening.
The actor Johnny Depp is in the midst of a divorce from his wife, Amber Heard. The couple recently filed to end the marriage and Ms. Heard, an actress and model, asked to receive spousal support. Mr. Depp asked that the request be denied. Complicating the issue is that Mr. Depp is reportedly worth a significant sum and Ms. Heard is of far lesser means.
The filing was made after 15 months of marriage. It is not known whether there was a prenuptial agreement, but certain reports have said that they did not have one. The couple met on the set of a film they were working on together.
Divorce is one of the most difficult situations that a person can endure and if there are major assets in dispute, it is even more difficult. Often in a high asset divorce, one spouse had the assets and the other did not.
Many times, there is a prenuptial agreement that must be examined to see if the circumstances have changed or if the assets rose in value after the marriage with both parties having a role in the rising income. If there was not a prenuptial agreement, it can also be a complicated circumstance. Having legal help with all aspects of a high-asset divorce is an imperative.
In this case, Mr. Depp is not only parting ways with Ms. Heard, but he is seeking to avoid paying her any form of support. Those who are wealthy and are ending their marriage might not be famous performers, but they often have similar concerns as those of Mr. Depp and Ms. Heard. Speaking to an attorney who is experienced in these types of cases is the first step to take.
